Pune : 3 men caught smuggling two leopard cubs


Pune : Policenama Online – Three persons were arrested on Monday by Pune rural police at Khed Shivapur toll plaza, when two leopard cabs were found during checking of their car. They were smuggling the cubs from Bangalore and wanted to sell them abroad, police said.

The arrested persons have been identified as Irfan Mehmood Shaikh (32) of Kondhwa Budruk, and car driver Aayas Pathan (40) of Ghorpade Peth and Munshi Habib Sayyed (31) of Kavatheyamai, in Shirur taluka in Pune district.

According to police, the car was checked on suspicion around 11 am. When the policemen were checking the car they heard growling sound of animal. On futher checking they found the four months old cubs in a cage and a blue box.

An FIR was registered against the accused persons with Rajgad police station and the cubs have been kept at a shelter home in Katraj zoo.

Investigation team included assistant police inspector Dattatray Darade, police constables Ambadas Burute, Sachin Kadam and traffic warden Manoj Nimbalkar. Police sub inspector Sameer Kadam is further investigating the case.
