6.0-magnitude earthquake hits NZ’s Snares Islands
Wellington, May 31 (UNI) An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 jolted 290 km southwest of Snares Islands, New Zealand region at 02:21:21 GMT on Wednesday, according to New Zealand’s geoscience research service provider.
It occurred at 14:21:21 local time, at a depth of 33 km, said the GNS Science.
The Snares Islands, known colloquially as The Snares, is a group of uninhabited islands lying about 200 km south of New Zealand’s South Island and to the south-southwest of Stewart Island.
There have been no reports of casualties so far.
