Pimpri-Chinchwad :  Policenama online Property owners heaved a sigh of relief in Pimpri-Chinchwad on Wednesday. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced in the state assembly that the unauthorised constructions in Pimpri-Chinchwad will be authorised. Fadnavis announced the cancellation of the penalty tax imposed on unauthorised constructions.

What did Devendra Fadnavis say?
The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), as it is, does not collect penalty tax. Due to this, the civic body suffered huge losses. “I have discussed the issue with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. We are abolishing the penalty tax. Currently, the tax levied on unauthorised constructions stands abolished. Action will be taken according to the decision of the court,” said Fadnavis.

What is the Penalty Tax?
After 4 January 2008, under Section 267A of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, a penalty equal to twice the property tax payable on illegal constructions was imposed. Meanwhile, according to this government decision, the penalty for residential properties up to 1,000 sq ft was waived off. Penalty of 50 percent of property tax per annum for residential constructions between 1,000 and 2,000 sq ft was levied. Residential constructions above 2,000 sq ft are subject to a penalty rate of double the property tax per annum.
