Pune : Policenama onlineRoads in peth areas of the city are in bad shape. Office-bearers of the ruling BJP in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) have been promising to repair them on certain dates. However, these dates have been postponed many times. There is no sign of any relief till date. The city unit of Congress will launch a city-wide agitation against the ruling party’s apathy, announced former MLC and MPCC vice-president Mohan Joshi.

There has been traffic chaos in the heart of city for the past several months as arterial roads such as Laxmi Road, Tilak Road and Bajirao Road have been dug up. Moreover, lanes and bylanes joining these main roads have also been dug up. This has added to already chaotic traffic in the city. Commuters are suffering. Repairs are not being carried out. People are upset over the condition of roads. People’s anger will be aired through an agitation and the ruling BJP’s style of functioning will be condemned, said Mohan Joshi in a press release.

Road repair works are pending in Sadashiv Peth, Narayan Peth and Shukrawar Peth areas. A big pipeline was laid on Laxmi Road, for which it was dug up. However, the road is in a bad condition as repairs carried out after laying the pipeline were of substandard quality, stated the release.

PMC standing committee chairman Hemant Rasane promised road repairs by December end. Then he postponed the date to January 20. Now, Rasane said it would take 15 more days for road repairs. The ruling party has no control over the civic administration, claimed Joshi.

Criticising the ruling BJP in the press release, the senior Congress leader said, “The BJP has been unsuccessful in completing any big project in Pune. It cannot even complete small civic works. The entire city is in a shambles.”
