Conviction In Acb Trap Case | Motor vehicle inspector taking bribe of ₹4,000 from Pune-based truck owner sentenced by court
NASHIK : The district judge and additional sessions judge at Shahada court in Nandurbar district has announcement punishment to a motor vehicle inspector and assistant cashier for accepting a bribe of ₹4,000 by stopping a truck coming from Pune at Gavhali check post (Gujarat border) in Akkalkuwa taluka in Nandurbar district.
The convicted officials have been identified as former motor vehicle inspector Suryabhan Revji Zodge and assistant cashier Velji Nahadia Mawchi (posted at Office of Deputy Regional Transport Officer, Nandurbar). On February 24, 2012, the complainant was proceeding to Gujarat in a truck filled with goods. Former motor vehicle inspector Suryabhan Revji Zodge and assistant cashier Velji Nahadia Mawchi stopped the truck at Gavhali check post. They had taken a bribe of ₹4,000 from them. The ACB had arrested them red-handed.
An FIR had been registered against them at Akkalkuwa police station. ACB officials had probed the case and had submitted a chargesheet in the court. Meanwhile, the District Judge and the Addl sessions Judge CS Datir of Shahada has found them guilty and sentenced them to one year imprisonment and a fine of ₹5,000 according to Anti-Corruption Act, section 7 and two years’ imprisonment and a fine of ₹5,000 under section 13 (D).
Assistant Public Prosecutor Swarnasinh Girase appeared on behalf of the government. DySP Rakesh Choudhary, PI Samadhan Wagh and Havaldar Amol Marathe were court coordination officers. They were guided by SP Sharmistha Gharge-Walawalkar of Nashik Range and DySP Narendra Pawar.
