Cosmos Cooperative Bank’s director for 43 consecutive years, sentenced to six months’ simple imprisonment

Pune: Policenama online  – Pune Crime News | A court has sentenced Mukund Laxman Abhyankar (86), who is Director of Cosmos Cooperative Bank for consecutive 43 years, to six months’ simple imprisonment for driving his car at high speed and hitting a woman riding a two-wheeler. JMFC SK Dugaonkar delivered the verdict. The order says that if the fine is not paid, he will have to spend one more month in jail. (Pune Crime News)

 

Abhyankar is a resident of Model Colony in Shivaji Nagar. When Mukund Abhyankar was driving his car on the afternoon of July 17, 2016 on Bhandarkar Road in the limits of Deccan police station, he had rammed into the two-wheeler being driven by Arundhati Girish Hasabnis (29), a resident of Narhe. Arundhati, who was seriously hurt, died during treatment. Vikram Sushil Dhoot (35), a resident of Shivaji Nagar, had lodged a complaint.

 

The incident had grabbed the headlines and the police had arrested Abhyankar. Meanwhile, Adv Girish Barguje appeared on behalf of prosecution and Adv Rishikesh Ganu appeared on behalf of the defendant. The court has awarded a sentence to Abhyankar and given him time to appeal against the verdict. Abhyankar has been released on bail to appeal against the verdict.
