PUNE: Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis performed the ground breaking ceremony of the Sus Mahalunge water supply scheme and inaugurated the main water pipeline at Baner Balewadi and water tanks at the Warje water treatment plant under the 24×7 water supply project. Fadnavis assured that the focus will be on planned and speedy development of Pune.

Guardian Minister and Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil was the chief guest. Deputy Chairperson of Legislative Council Dr Neelam Gorhe (via video conference), MLA Bheemrao Tapkir, MLA Madhuri Misal, MLA Sunil Kamble, MLA Siddharth Shirole, former MLA Jagdish Mulik, Yogesh Tilekar, Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar, Addl Municipal Commissioner Dr Kunal Khemnar, Vikas Dhakne were present.

Fadnavis said, “Pune is not only a historical city but also a city of the future. It is a ‘Knowledge City’ of the 21st century. Pune city is also a science capital. Pune district is the manufacturing hub of the state. Maharashtra manufactures 20 per cent of all goods manufactured in the country and Pune has the lion’s share in it. Considering the increasing population here, it is necessary to create a good liveable atmosphere, education, health and environment facilities and efforts are being made in that direction.

When there was sufficient water in Pune, a negative impression was created that 25 to 30 per cent of the population was deprived of water due to the faults in the distribution system. Hence, on the lines of Nagpur, the 24×7 water supply project is being started in Baner-Balewadi area. Sus-Mhalunge is a growing area and in the future, it will develop very fast. Since development was happening in a planned manner, it is necessary to make adequate drinking water arrangements. Hence, considering the population in the future, water supply arrangements will be made.

The railway overbridge at Koregaon and the flyover between Suncity and Karve Nagar will help in reducing traffic congestion. Such facilities are important for traffic management. Five thousand students are going to benefit from the bridge over the Mutha river. The work of the Pune ring road is going to be started soon and it may involve an expenditure of ₹27,000 crore. This is the backbone of Pune’s economy and the key to employment and business in Pune. The Pune Metro project is progressing at a rapid pace. The next phase will be inaugurated soon. When the suburbs are linked to Pune city, the Metro will play an important role in streamlining the traffic. The works being executed at Chandni Chowk will help in smoothening the traffic. The maximum number of electric buses are plying in Pune. In the future, efforts will be made to provide better services to the common through the integrated transport system.
Fifteen Smart City projects have been completed in Pune. A project of recycling waste is being started in Pune and water recycling is also very important. Clean water can be used for drinking and agriculture. A project costing ₹1,900 crore has been started for cleaning of Mula-Mutha river. This will help in cleaning the river. Efforts will be made to improve the quality of Puneites by striking a balance between environment and speedy development.

Patil said, “The Baner-Balewadi water supply project is an ambitious project. Since the water was not reaching far flung areas, it has been proposed to build 85 tanks under the 24×7 water supply project. The work of 60 tanks has been completed. After the entire project is completed, 4 TMC water which was going water, can be used. Along with this, the treated waste water from 18 waste water treatment plants funded by the ₹2,000 core JAICA project can be used for other purposes. Since this water will be used in industries, the clean water being used there will be available for citizens.” He thanked Fadnavis for sanctioning such important projects while he was the chief minister.

Deputy Chairperson of Legislative Council Dr Neelam Gorhe said, “In summers, women experience water shortage. Residents of other cities also come to Pune. Pune has a good environment and water. Development works are being executed by focusing on planned development. The Sadhu Vaswani bridge will solve traffic problems.” She expressed satisfaction that pending projects were being implemented in a time-bound manner. She expressed a hope that a meeting should be held with social organisations regarding environmental problems of Pune.
Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar spoke about the various projects being implemented by the civic body. Considering the increasing population in Pune, the PMC is providing various facilities to citizens. The project, whose ground breaking ceremony is being carried out, will be completed soon.

Former corporator Amol Balwadkar said, “The ‘Mera Life Mera Swachch Shahar’ national campaign is being implemented from May 15 to June 5. As a part of this project, through people’s participation, 3R centres will be set up. This initiative was inaugurated by Fadnavis. T-shirts made from recycled plastic bottles were also unveiled.

Under the Baner water supply project under the equal water distribution project, three water tanks have been set up. The work of laying the 5 km water pipeline from the Warje water treatment centre to Balewadi has been completed. Because of this project, the water requirements of residents of Baner Balewadi area will be met.

The ground-breaking ceremony of laying the water pipelines and constructing water tanks for the newly included Sus and Mhalunge villages was conducted via a video conference by Fadnavis. Considering the population of next 30 years, it has been proposed to build two water tanks in Sus village and four tanks in Mhalunge villages along with laying a water pipeline of 65 km. This will involve an expenditure of ₹75 crore. The work of laying the water pipeline from Chandni Chowk to Balewadi from the Warje water treatment centre has been completed.

The ground-breaking ceremony of building a six lane bridge from Suncity Sinhagad Road to Dudhane Lawn Karve Nagar on the Mutha river was presided over by Fadnavis. The bridge will be 345 metres long and have a width of 30 metres. Because of this bridge, travelling from Sinhagad Road to Karve Nagar, Deccan and Kothrud will become easier and will reduce traffic congestion in the area.

The Sadhu Vaswani railway overbridge at Koregaon will be demolished and constructed again. The ground breaking ceremony was presided over by Fadnavis. A provision of ₹83 crore has been made for the bridge. The length of the bridge is 640metres and a four lane road will be available for commuters going from Bund Garden to Camp.
