Else, give me a clean chit : Pratap Sarnaik

Mumbai : Policenama –  Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik demanded justice in the state assembly during the ongoing monsoon session. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has interrogated him in a money laundering case.

“Since I am an MLA from the ruling party, charges against me also mean charges against the government. Hence, the government should give me a clean chit,” said Sarnaik.

Nana Patole raised the issue of phone tapping. “Was the chief minister privy to my phone tapping, besides officials? Did he not know that I was an MP when I was being framed in drug smuggling? Gadkari, Danve, Bachchu Kadu have also been bracketed. They have been accused of drug smuggling,” said Patole in the assembly. State Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil made a statement and has called a meeting in this regard.

Some leaders’ phones were being tapped in 2016-17. Permission had to be sought from the additional chief secretary (home) before tapping the phone. A high-level inquiry will be ordered. Action will be taken, said Walse Patil.

Raising a similar issue, Sarnaik spoke about the ED action against him.

“The ED is unnecessarily harassing me. People are being threatened that they would meet the same fate as Anil Deshmukh and Chhagan Bhujbal. The ED is investigating the case, which should have been investigated by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW). Being an MLA from the ruling party, these charges are construed as against the government,” said Sarnaik.

He said, “I have written a letter to the home minister that had I been involved in a scam, I should be arrested. However, if there is no scam, then either the report should be made public or a clean chit should be given.”

Replying to this, Walse Patil said, “Sarnaik has submitted a petition to me. We have sought details from MMRDA about any such cases with EOW.”
