FIR against RTI activist Sudhir Alhat, 6 others for taking ransom of Rs 25 lakh
Pune : Policenama online – A case has been registered at Kothrud police station against RTI activist Sudhir Alhat who had got a PSI suspended by making false complaints to senior police officials and had taken Rs 25 lakh from a PSI after demanding Rs 50 lakh, along with Archana Samudra, Rohan Samudra, Dinesh Samudra, Jitu Bhau, Anna Jeur and Manisha Dharne. Earlier, Alhat had been arrested by the crime branch for seeking ransom of Rs 50 lakh from a woman.
PSI Santosh Sonawane has filed a complaint at the Kothrud police station. The police have registered a case against Sudhir Alhat, a resident of Ramanchal building, Shivajinagar, Archana Samudra, Rohan Samudra, Dinesh Samudra (all residents of Kothrud), Jitu Bhau, Anna Jeur and Manisha Dharne, a resident of Kothrud.
According to the police, PSI Santosh Sonawane was investigating a case of cheating involving Rs 12 lakh by the accused Dinesh Samudra and others. The accused were in the Yerawda Jail for a long time. Meanwhile, Sudhir Alhat had arranged for a lawyer and got him bail. Since Sonawane did not help Dinesh Samudra in a crime, he was being threatened. Sonawane initially ignored the complaints. However, Alhat made frequent complaints against Sonawane to the senior officials and Sonawane was suspended.
Later, Alhat threatened Sonawane that he had got 32 officials suspended and his suspension order will be issued soon. Sonawane and policeman Dnyaneshwar Pavle met Alhat. On the latter’s insistence, they met Archana Samudra and Rohan Samudra and they demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh. There was a compromise and on November 7, 2021, they gave Rs 25 lakh to them.
Meanwhile, on a complaint filed by a woman, a case was filed against Alhat and others and they were arrested. Later, Sonawane approached the court to get justice. On instructions of the court, the police registered a case of ransom.
Senior PI Mahendra Jagtap is investigating the case.
