New Delhi : For the convenience of migrant workers, the government of India has just launched the Mera Ration app. The app ‘Mera Ration’ has been launched by the ministry of consumer affairs, food and public distribution. This app is a part of the government’s ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ (ONORC) system.

The app has been designed for migrant labourers as they have to keep moving for work and ideally need a ration card that should work across states. Currently, 32 states and union territories are covered by the apps. According to reports, the remaining states are going to be added soon.

According to the Food and Public Distribution department Secretary, Sudhanshu Pandey, the system was initially started in four states in August 2019. Later it was rolled out to 32 states and union territories by December last year. The only states not on the roster right now include Assam, Chhattisgarh, Delhi and West Bengal. These four states are expected to be included over the next few months.

According to Pandey, the system covers nearly 69 crore NFSA (National Food Security Act) beneficiaries right now. It is about 86% of the NFSA population in India. There is a monthly average of about 1.5 to 1.6 crore portability transactions being recorded under ONORC system.
