In wake of inclement weather people should avoid traveling in high altitudes-Admin
Shimla, Jan 18 (UNI) – Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) | The prevailing bone chilling coldwave and possibility of more snowfall in the Himachal Pradesh Lahaul-Spiti district administration sounded traffic advisory to commuters and tourist urging to avoid unnecessary traveling bin in the high altitude areas of State.
Deputy commissioner Lahaul-Spiti said in a Weather alert issued to media Wednesday that Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) weather forecast, snowfall has been predicted from 19th, 20th and 23rd to 26th January 2023, in the district. “Despite the warnings being issued, people go to the higher hilly areas and putting their lives at risk. Keeping in view the possibility of snowfall in the district, all citizens and tourists are informed that they should avoid unnecessary travel in high altitude areas and low temperature areas and stay safe in their homes and do not take any kind of risk.
Therefore, All Gram Panchayat Pradhan, NGOs, Trekkers and Pedestrians are requested to spread this message to maximum people to avoid any unpleasant incidents. Keeping this information in mind, be very alert in your respective areas and make sure of the weather / road conditions before making any urgent travel. ‘ Weather alert mentioned.
The bone chilling coldwave continue in the state as night temperature is keeping near subzero in the night and partly cloudy weather and dense fog affected normal life in the state. Thick layer of frost disrupted the vehicular traffic due to further hardening black ice and causing most of roads extremely slippery. State Disaster Management authority stated that 93 Roads including two National Highway are snowbound and not fit for plying vehicular traffic.Lahaul Spiti police said in traffic Advisory that all locals and Pangi bound vehicles are allowed to enter the district via Rohtang Tunnel (vice versa) till further orders. • All Tourist vehicles (expect two wheeler) are allowed to enter the district via ATR (vice versa) from 10:00 AM to 03:00 PM only till further orders.Due to inclement weather Locals & tourists are advised to be very cautious while traveling in the valley.
Police Department Lahaul & Spiti would oversee the traffic management and coordinate with District Kullu Police with more snowfall. “Tourists are requested to move and stay in safe places with worsening of inclement weather. Including NH -3 and NH 304 around 76 roads are snowbound in the Lahaul-Spiti district. Mercury froze at minus ten degrees at Keylong. Minimum temperature of Kalpa in Kinnuar was minus 4.5, Manali minus 2.2, Narkanda minus 1.7, Solan minus 0.7, Bilaspur and Shimla one, Dalhousie & Una zero degree, Dharmshala & Kangra 2.2 each, Hamirpur 2 and Mandi 2.5 degrees.
