IPL: Kings XI Punjab franchise to be now called as ‘Punjab Kings’

Kings XI Punjab have officially changed their name to Punjab Kings ahead of the auction of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, scheduled to be held on February 18 in Chennai. The franchise said that the new brand logo and name will extend their undying spirit of fighting against all odds while celebrating the true spirit of Punjab.

KXIP is one of the eight franchise teams to have competed in the last edition of the T20 league in the UAE.

Speaking about the new brand identity, team CEO Satish Menon said: “Punjab Kings is a more evolved brand name, and we understand it was a right time for us to move focus on the core brand itself. The change in brand identity is not about changing our brand ethos but celebrating our one-ness as we stand in unit like a family. The new logo honors the liveliness and vibrancy of the brand and provides modern elements, while we stand out from rest of the teams.”

The franchise, jointly owned by Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia, Preity Zinta and Karan Paul, have failed to win an IPL title since the event’s inaugural edition in 2008.

The KL Rahul-led team managed to only win six of their 14 matches in the 13th edition of the cash-rich league. While they will be keen to sign prominent T20 stalwarts in the upcoming auction, they have also decided to enter the competition in a new avatar.
