Kashmir valley continues to reel under freezing cold

Srinagar, Dec 29 (UNI)- Kashmir valley continues to reel under freezing cold with dense fog severely affecting normal life on Friday.

Kashmir weather, an independent observer said that Ganderbal, Bandipora, and Budgam recorded the lowest temperature of the season at minus 6.7°C on Friday.

The Meteorological centre Srinagar said that Srinagar, the summer Capital of Jammu and Kashmir, settled on -3.3°C for the second consecutive day on Friday. It was 1.2°C below normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during this period of the season.

The maximum temperature recorded 0.5°C above normal of 7.9°C against 8.4°C in Srinagar the previous day.

Dense fog continues to engulf Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir valley affecting normal life.

Pahalgam remained the coldest place and recorded a low of -5.4°C on Friday against the -5.2°C recorded the previous night. It was -0-2°C below normal for the tourist host spot of south Kashmir.

The minimum temperature at Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway plunged to a low of -4.2°C against the -3.8°C recorded the previous night, while Kokernag dipped to a low of -2.6°C against the -2.0 recorded a day ago.

The mercury at Gulmarg improved by a notche and recorded at -2.5°C against the -2.6°C recorded the previous night. It was 3.7°C above normal for the famous ski resort of north Kashmir.

Kupwara had a low of -4.0°C against the -4-3°C recorded a day ago. It was 1.5°C below normal for the north Kashmir district, the MeT office said.

Weather generally will remain dry with moderate to dense fog over Central Kashmir, Plains of Baramulla, Ganderbal and Pulwama district till end of the month, the MeT office said.

It said there is a possibility of light snow over higher reaches during evening/night on the new year eve over Jammu and Kashmir.

The weather will remain generally dry during January 1-2, 2024, while there could be light rain or snow at scattered places on January 3-4, the MeT office said.
