Mahad landslide | 80-85 people feared being buried, Rescue team didn't reach on time

Mahad : Policenama online – Mahad landslide | So far 35 people have died due to landslides in Taliye village of Mahad in Raigad district. The rescue operation is still going on. 80 to 85 people are feared trapped under the debris (Mahad landslide). The accident may have happened yesterday, but villagers say that they have not received any help even after 19 hours. The accident happened around 4 pm yesterday. Actually the village is situated in a hilly area.

The landslide occurred due to heavy rain. 35 houses got hit by it. So far 35 people have died in the accident, but the death toll is expected to rise. Local people reached the spot after the accident. However, torrential rains in the area are hampering the relief work. Locals started the work of evacuating the people trapped under the rubble. So far 32 bodies have been pulled out from under the debris. Another 80 to 85 people are said to be trapped under the debris.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Praveen Darekar visited Taliye village after the accident. The accident happened at 4 pm yesterday. However, no official of the administration reached the spot. Darekar has demanded that a case of murder be registered against the officials concerned.
