Maharashtra: Health Minister Rajesh Tope says Covid-19 second wave possibility is low

Mumbai: State Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that the possibility of the second wave is low as the state’s daily Covid-19 cases dropped below the 5k-mark while recoveries were more than double and deaths related to coronavirus infections also dropped below 50. He said that he would seek funds from the Asian Development Bank to improve public health facilities in the state.

Tope was speaking at a webinar on issues of nurses and health workers organized by Saathi, United Nurses Association Maharashtra, Maharashtra Nurses Federation and Jan Arogya Abhiyan.

In this webinar, the Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Council, Dr. Neelam Gorhe, Former Director-General of Health Subhash Salunkhe, Praveena Mahadalkar, Dr. Abhay Shukla, Dr. Sangeeta Bhujbal, Suman Tillekar, Swati Rane, Shakuntala Bhalerao were also present.

The new infections dropped below the 5K mark for the third day with 3,075 fresh cases – compared with the peak single-day tally of 24,886 on September 11, with total cases at 18,55,341.

The state recovery rate improved from 93.04 percent to 93.28 percent while the mortality rate stood at 2.57 percent.
