Maharashtra Rains | Record rainfall reported in Pune, other parts of Maharashtra

Pune : Policenama online – Maharashtra Rains | Rainfall is rarely reported in December in Maharashtra. However, heavy rains lashed the State due to the formation of a low pressure belt from the Lakshadweep Islands to North Maharashtra. This rainfall has set an all-time record.

Such a heavy rainfall was never recorded before. A 75.4-mm rainfall was recorded till 8.30 am in Shivajinagar. The highest rainfall in 24-hours (53.1 mm) in Shivajinagar was previously recorded on December 13, 2014.

Rainfall recorded in other city areas and neighbouring places in the district is as following: Pashan – 105.5 mm, Chinchwad – 103 mm, Lavale – 75 mm, Magarpatta – 65 mm, Malin – 65 mm, Talegaon – 64 mm, Daund – 52 mm, Dudulgaon – 78 mm, Vadgaon Sheri – 127 mm, Purandar – 72 mm, Rajgurunagar – 64 mm, Haveli – 115 mm, Bhor – 72 mm, Ambegaon – 55 mm, and Shirur – 28 mm.

Rainfall recorded in Goa, Mumbai and other cities in the State: Mumbai – 90 mm, Santacruz – 91 mm, Sangli – 57 mm, Kolhapur – 69 mm, Dahanu – 114 mm, Nashik -63 mm, Baramati – 50 mm, Malegaon – 55 mm, Margao – 62 mm, Byculla – 100 mm, Juhu airport – 93 mm, and Ahmednagar – 20 mm.

Cloudy weather conditions would prevail while light rainfall may occur in the State on Thursday, predicted the Met office. Though there was a break in rainfall at many places on Thursday morning, chilly weather conditions and thick fog prevailed.
