Pune : Policenama online – The anti-extortion cell (unit 2) of the Pune police has arrested a member of the Baba Bodke gang for charging 50 per cent interest per month from a builder and demanding a ransom. He has been identified as Nilesh Srikant Joshi (40), a resident of Saranga Terrace flat number 11, Anand Nagar, Vadgaon Budruk, Sinhagad Road.

According to the police, the accused is a member of the notorious Baba Bodke gang and a serious offence is registered against him. He had given an illegal loan of Rs 25 lakh to a builder from September 2021 to December 2021.

He had prepared a notarised agreement on November 22, 2021 that he will be given Rs 50 lakh on account of interest of 50 per cent per month. The builder had agreed to give Rs 50 lakh for a loan of Rs 25 lakh before November 22, 2021.

It was mentioned in the agreement that if Rs 50 lakh was not given to him, he will be given possession of a flat measuring 1,200 square feet in Kothrud. Since the builder did not return the money, Joshi was pestering him. Joshi also abused the builder by calling him on his mobile and threatened to harm his family.

The builder contacted the anti-extortion cell of the Pune police and gave a written complaint. Police Inspector Balaji Pandhre carried out a probe and the police registered a case at Vishrambaug police station.

A team of police officials including police inspector Balaji Pandhre of the anti-extortion cell unit 2, police sub-inspector Shreekant Chavan, policeman Vijay Gurav, Pradip Shitole, Shaliesh Surve, Vinod Salunkhe, Rahul Uttarkar, Sangram Shingare, Saidoba Bhojrao, Sachin Ahivale, Amol Pilane, Pravin Padwal, Chetan Shirolkar, Mohan Yelpalle and policewoman Asha Kolekar took the action under the guidance of Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta, Joint CP Dr Ravindra Shisve, Additional CP Ramnath Pokale, DCP Shrinivas Ghadge and ACP Laxman Borate.
