The accused prisoner has been identified as Ashwin Anandrao Chavan. Yerawada Jail Officer Amol Jadhav (37), a resident of Lohegaon, has lodged a complaint (335/23) at the Yerawada police station. The incident took place at circle number one, barrack number one of the jail on Friday at 2 am.

According to the police, Ashwin Chavan and two other were absconding in connection with the murder of Yogesh Jagtap. They had fired at the police team which had gone to arrest them at Chakan. The former police commissioner, Krishna Prakash, had hit the accused with a tree. Ashwin and two others had been arrested. They have been kept in the judicial custody.

The security guards found a mobile in the window number two of barrack number one. A battery and a SIM card was found in the mobile. An FIR has been registered against Ashwin for bringing the mobile in the jail despite a ban. PSI Ashok Kate is probing the case.
