Mumbai-Pune Trans Harbor Link Road | Pune-Mumbai travel in 90 minutes; money, fuel will be saved
Mumbai: Policenama online – Mumbai-Pune Trans Harbor Link Road | It has been planned to link Mumbai-Pune Expressway to Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL). Many cities will be linked to Mumbai within a shorter time. Mumbai-Pune commuters stand to benefit from this. The distance between Mumbai and Pune would be covered in 90 minutes. It will save time and fuel.
MTHL, the sea link connecting Sewri and Nhava Sheva will be completed in 2024. The bridge will shorten the travel time between south Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. This will also facilitate further travel to Pune and Goa in less time. Traffic jams in Trans Harbour City will be reduced. It will also boost commercial growth in Navi Mumbai. Interchanges will be available at Sewri, Shivaji Nagar and Chirle.
Currently available route to Pune
One would join Pune-Mumbai Expressway via PD Melo road, Freeway and then Sion-Panvel Expressway. One can journey further to Goa. One can join NH4, NH7 48. In the future, while travelling to Pune, one would go via PD Melo road to Freeway and Sewri. Then taking MTHL, one can reach Pune-Mumbai Expressway via Chirle.
Less time to reach Lonavala-Khandala
The Pune-Mumbai travel time will be reduced after the completion of the project. Journey time to Lonavala and Khandala will be reduced. Moreover, Mumbai and other places on NH 48 can be reached in less time.
Heavy traffic expected in future
The number of heavy vehicles is likely to increase in the future on this route. The existing roads in Nhava Sheva are narrow. Hence, vehicles coming from MTHL have to take a 1.5-km detour. This consumes 45 minutes in the peak hours. To end the traffic snarls, MTHL will be extended by six km.
Estimated cost of the project Rs 17,843 crore
The State Urban Development Department has approved an expenditure of Rs 2,639 crore for the project. The length of the link road will be 22 km, of this 16.5-km route will be laid on the sea while 5.5-km route will be built on land. The estimated cost of the project will be Rs 17,843 crore. The government has assured a security of Rs 15,100 crore for a loan to be taken from the international finance agency, JAICA.
