Omicron virus community transmission has started in Mumbai and Pune: Dr Pradeep Awate

Pune : Policenama online – Omicron infections are rising in Pune and Mumbai. In this background, State Public Health Department’s Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme State Surveillance Officer Dr Pradeep Awate claimed, quoting the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER), that community transmission of the virus has begun in Mumbai and Pune.
Dr Awate said community transmission has begun in these cities as per a preliminary report of the IISER. However, a relieving feature of the Omicron infection is that it has very mild symptoms. For example, over 2,500 infected people were found in Mumbai yesterday. However, a majority of them were asymptomatic. It shows mild symptoms, rates of hospitalisation and fatality are low. However, everyone has to take care and follow all Covid-19 norms to stop its spread.
