PCMC preparing to operationalise Jumbo Covid Centre at Nehrunagar due to rising Covid-19 cases
Pune : Policenama online – The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has increased the number of beds in its hospitals in the backdrop of rising cases of Delta and Omicron variants.
The civic body will make operational 200 beds in the Jumbo Covid Centre at the Annasaheb Magar Stadium, Nehrunagar. This centre was jointly built by the state government, PMRDA, and PCMC during the first Covid-19 wave. It had 816 beds with Oxygen support. The caseload decreased after the second wave. It was then closed. However, Omicron virus is spreading rapidly across the world and in India too.
Measures are being taken in this backdrop. The civic administration is bracing to operationalise the Jumbo Covid Centre again. In all, 200 beds will be kept ready. In the case of a sudden spike in the infections, treatment can be provided at the centre. All hospital infrastructure is available here. Only the circulation will have to be started.
The state government has directed measures to tackle a possible third wave following increasing Omicron cases. As a part of this, the Jumbo Covid Centre at Nehrunagar will be opened again. Planning is being made to organise 200 beds, said PMCM spokesperson Shirish Poreddy.
