Pimpri: Woman sets herself on fire after being fed up with constant harassment by in-laws, four booked
Pimpri: A married woman set herself on fire after she was constantly harassed by her in-laws for giving birth to a girl, the police said. The incident took place at Abhishek Society in Premlok Park near Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate on Wednesday (March 10) around 5 pm.
Chinchwad police has registered a case against Anand Chhaganrao Khairnar, Chhaganrao Sukhlal Khairnar, Kamalabai Chhaganrao Khairnar and Alka Kailash Thackeray. The victim lodged a complaint at the Chinchwad police station on Monday (March 15).
However, when the woman became a girl, her father-in-law started harassing her. Angered by the torture, the woman set it on fire. No arrests have been made in the case yet, the officials said.
According to the Chinchwad police, the plaintiff was harassed by her in-laws for giving birth to a girl instead a boy. Angered by the fact that the in-law’s wanted a boy, the woman poured kerosene on her body and set herself on fire. The woman suffered 50 percent burns and is undergoing treatment at Sassoon Hospital in Pune. Sub-inspector Vikas Madke is conducting further investigation.
