PMC exceeds target, earns Rs 1,527 crore in nine months from building permissions

Pune : Policenama online – The Pune Municipal corporation (PMC) Building Permission and Construction Department has collected Rs 1,527 crore from various permissions. The department collected 129 percent of its estimated revenue in just nine months.

In the background of Covid-19, the State government granted concessions in premium charges and stamp duty to boost construction activity in the State which helped the PMC to get maximum revenue from building permissions.

Due to the lockdown, the civic body received a setback in earning revenue in 2020-21. The construction activities had almost stopped in the first and second waves from March 2020 to April 2021. Last year, the PMC collected merely around Rs 507 crore from permissions.

Finally, the State government decided to address the issue and announced concessions in premium charges and stamp duty. The deadline to avail concessions was December 31, 2021. This has had a positive result. The PMC collected Rs 900 crore more as compared to last year in revenue collection.

The Standing Committee estimated Rs 1,185 crore revenue from building permissions. However, the PMC crossed the target of Rs 1,185 crore in nine months.

According to civic officials, the civic body will get Rs 200 crore to Rs 300 crore more up to March 2022 after declaring the new ready reckoner rates.

City Engineer Prashant Waghmare said, “The State government’s decision to give concessions in stamp duty and premium charges helped the PMC to increase revenue.”
