Pune :  Policenama online  The number of devotees visiting Jejuri, a pilgrim centre in Pune district, is growing as PMPML has started its bus service from Pune to the industrial colony in Jejuri. The public transport utility is generating good revenue from this service.

The bus service was launched on December 12 last year. PMPML has earned around Rs 2.59 crore in the past one year on this route.

Economic activity had halted during the lockdown and in the backdrop of the pandemic for over 18 months. Businesses in Jejuri run on pilgrims visiting the Khandoba temple.

Following relaxations in the restrictions and permission to open religious places, devotees started trickling in. Common people could travel by PMPML bus, along with families, to Jejuri.

This helped the local market in Jejuri. Economic activity has normalised. Though MSRTC buses are not running due to a strike by its employees, the PMPML bus service is available. This has helped economic activity to increase in Jejuri. The bus service has played a big role in this, said local councillor Hemant Sonawane and local traders.

The bus service is a result of efforts made by Jejuri municipal council president Veena Sonawane and deputy president Ganesh Nikude. Councillors followed up the demand with MLA Sanjay Jagtap for the bus service. Hence, it was started last year.
