Pune ACB nabs two including police sub-inspector for taking bribe at Chakan police station

Pune :  Policenama online  – The Anti-Corruption Bureau, Pune (Pune ACB) nabbed a man red-handed while accepting a bribe at the Chakan Police Station on behalf of a police sub-inspector (PSI) on December 29.

The arrested person is identified as Akhtar Shekhawat Ali Shaikh (35). The police also registered an FIR against Police Sub-Inspector Somnath Zende in this connection. However, he has not yet been arrested.

A 27-year-old man had lodged a complaint with the Pune Anti-Corruption Bureau about this.

According to the police, a complaint was assigned to PSI Zende against the complainant at the Chakan police station. While dealing with it, Zende demanded a bribe of Rs 70,000 from the complainant for not taking any action.

However, the complainant disagreed with this and lodged a complaint about this with the Pune ACB. Acting on his complaint, the Pune ACB investigated the case to find that Sheikh had demanded a bribe of Rs 85,000 from the complainant that included Rs 70,000 for Zende and Rs 15,000 for himself.

The Pune ACB laid a trap at the Chakan police station and nabbed Akhtar Sheikh red-handed while accepting the bribe on behalf of PSI Zende.

This action was taken by the squad of Pune ACB under the guidance of Superintendent of Police, Pune ACB, Rajesh Bansode, and Additional Superintendent of Police Suraj Gurav. Further investigation is being conducted by Deputy Superintendent of Police Kranti Pawar.
