Pune: Almost Rs 80 Crore spent on construction work on Sinhgad Road so far

Pune- Work on Sinhagad road from Nanded Fata to Donje-Pabe was proposed to cost Rs 210 crore. Out of this, Rs 80 crore has been spent on this road to date. The work was expected to be complete by coming March, but there is still more than half work pending. Senior officials in the Public Works Department has not been able to get the work done on time by the contractor.

The Public Works Department had awarded the contract for the construction of 32 km road from Nanded City to Kirkatwadi, Khadakwasla, Gorhe Budruk, Donje, Khanapur, and Pabe. According to the Public Works Department, the contract was given to Roadway Solutions Lonavla Highway Pvt. Ltd.

Out of the total road work, 10 km of asphalting work has been completed by this company. So, asphalting of five kilometers of road is currently underway. Out of 11 km of cement concreting, only 3 km has been completed. So, three kilometers of work is currently underway. It is expected to complete the road works in order to maintain the quality of the road works and prevent accidents.

Sadashiv Shelar, Police Inspector, Haveli Police station said, “Tourists should follow other traffic rules including speed limits. The contractor is required to install protective strips, reflectors, barricades and notice boards at the site where the work is being carried out. Saturday-Sunday traffic jams puts a strain on the police administration. Homeguards along with traffic police have been deployed at key locations”.

Kalyan Giri, Additional Executive Engineer, MSEDCL said, “As per the demand of Public Works Department, budget has been approved for undergrounding of power lines at the required places. Further action is to be taken by the construction department.”
