Defamatory message sent and youth cheated of Rs 13 lakh
Pune: Policenama online – Pune Crime | Money was sent to a man’s account when he had not asked for it after he had taken a small loan. Cyber thieves asked him to return the money with interest and send defamatory messages to his friends and relatives and harassed him for nine months. The cyber thieves succeeded in extorting Rs 13 lakh 87 thousand 765 from him. (Pune Crime)
A 30-year-old youth staying in Ambegaon has lodged a complaint at the Cyber police station. The incident took place between September 1, 2021 to June 2, 2022.
According to the police, the complainant has a government job. He got a call from an unidentified person. He was asked to install cash advance and small loan application apps in his mobile. After he installed the apps. After he installed the apps, the fraudsters got access to his contact list, photo and other information. Later, a small amount of money was sent to his account even when he had not asked for it. He got a ransom call asking him to return the principal with interest.
The thieves sent obscene and defamatory messages to people in his contact list. The complainant gave them money when they asked for it to avoid further harassment. So far, he has given Rs 13 lakh 87 thousand 765. Since he was fed up, he approached the police.
