Pune Crime News | Self-styled journalists from Solapur try to extort ₹5 crore from Pune-based businessman; Crime Branch arrests two accused near Patas toll naka; Accused identified as Mahesh Hanme and Dinesh Hanme
PUNE: Pune Crime News | An attempt to run over policemen was made near Patas toll plaza on Thursday at 4 pm when the Pune police Crime Branch had gone to arrest some people who had demanded an extortion of ₹5 crore from a businessman who has a software business at EON IT Park at Kharadi. The police arrested two self-styled journalists who opened fire at them. It has come to light that a rape case has been registered against one of the accused, Mahesh Hanme, in Solapur.
Mahesh Hanme and his aide Dinesh Hanme have been arrested. The accused had demanded ₹5 lakh from a businessman in Kharadi. When the Crime Branch team went to arrest the accused, they tried to run over the policemen. The policemen opened fire at the accused and the bullet hit the rear tyres of the accused’s vehicle. It has come to light that the accused are self-styled journalists and a rape case is registered against Mahesh Hanme in Solapur.
The accused were trying to extort money from a businessman who has a office in EON IT Park since August 2022. The accused had sought ₹5 crore from the businessman. Till now, the businessman has given the accused ₹3.80 lakh. Meanwhile, Hanme was seeking money from time to time from the businessman. Mahesh Hanme claimed to be a self-styled journalist. To malign the businessman, Hanme was preparing fake reports and sending them to various people through WhatsApp and threatening to involve the complainant in a police case.
Mahesh had told the businessman that he wanted ₹50 lakh and called him to Hotel Swaraj at Mohol in Solapur district. The businessman had informed the Crime Branch about the threat.
Police Commissioner Ritesh Kumaarr, Joint CP Sandeep Karnik, Addl CP Ramnath Pokale, DCP Amol Zende, ACP Satish Govekar guided a team of police officials including Sr PI Pratap Mankar, PSI Shrikant Chavan and other policemen were on the accused’s trail.
The accused realised that the police were following them. When the police reached near Patas toll naka, the accused tried to run over the police and kill them. Meanwhile, PSI Shrikant Chavan, displaying courage, opened fire at the accused and the bullets hit the rear tyre of the accused’s vehicle. The police successfully chased Mahesh Hanme and Dinesh Hanme and arrested them. The incident has created a flutter.
