Social Security Cell of Pune police crime branch raids gambling joint in Chandan Nagar; goods worth Rs 3.5 lakh seized
Pune: Policenama online – Pune Crime | The Social Security Cell (SSC) of Pune police crime branch raided the gambling den of Rocky and Vicky Anthony and took action against 40 people. Goods worth Rs 3.5 lakh have been seized. The action was carried out on Monday. (Pune Crime)
The SSC came to know that gambling is taking place at a shed and outside in Samarth Nagar area of Chandan Nagar. The police raided the place at 8 pm. Twenty seven players and six operators were arrested. During the action, the owner of the gambling joint and five others escaped. A case has been filed against those arrested and absconding at the Chandan Nagar police station under the Maharashtra Gambling Prevention Act.
The accused have been identified as Vishwanath Bapurao Tiwar (32), a resident of Kharadi, Vijay Gautam Sankpal (49), a resident of Chandan Nagar, Suraj Kalsingh Abhang (43), a resident of Kanjarbhat Vasti, Yerawada, Sharif Ismail Sheikh (35), a resident of Juna Bazaar, Pune, Datta Shrimant Gaikwad (42), a resident of Kharadi and Sandip Bhagvan Chaudhary (42), a resident of Lonikand. The owners of the gambling joint Victor alias Vicky Daniel Anthony (41), a resident of Kharadi and Lawrence alias Rocky, a resident of Kharadi are absconding.
Some other accused are Suresh Baban Shinde (43), Mahavir Malhari Mane (32), Chetan Dyaneshwar Dorke (22), Javed Toladi Bagwan (35), Suresh Devchand Dongre (42), Punjab Rambhau Shirsath (37), Arun Ranu Avchitte (36), Tohim Fayyum Sheikh (18), Jalindhar Keru Ghorpade (30), Vikas Kalyan Dhurandhar (22), Nagesh Shivaji Vannale (26), Dynaeshwar Vijay Sonwane (28), Sanjay Pralhad Shetty (38), Kamlakar Shivaji Gavli (42), Kaisar Latif Sheikh (40) Anil Vasanta Digole (38), Suresh Gopal Ingle (55), Sunil Dagdu Rathod (37), Santosh Haridas Indalkar (31), Sharad Haridas Mute (30), Ajay Dyaneshwar Khalse (22), Shankar Rama Lashkare (31), Sahebrao Sitaram Mhaske (55), Nagappa Rama Mhaske (25), Sandip Chandrakant Thorat (60), Subba Reddy (48) and Chandrakant Mahadev Raut (27).
Since the SSC is carrying out raids regularly, the gamblers have found a new way to run their operations. They have started mobile gambling. An operator sits in an autorickshaw or a two-wheeler and accepts bets and money. When they come to know about likely police action, they disappear by using the same two-wheeler. On Monday, the two-wheelers which were being used for gambling, have been seized.
The action was taken by Senior PI Rajesh Puranik, policewoman Rajashree Mohite, Nilam Shinde, Irfan Pathan, Hanumant Kamble and three probationary PSIs under the guidance of Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta, Joint CP Sandeep Karnik, Addl CP Ramnath Pokale and DCP Shrinivas Ghadge.
