Pune double murder mystery solved; UPSC aspirant kills couple to avenge sexual assault on mother

A 32-year-old man killed the couple to take revenge for a sexual assault on his mother six years ago. The investigation has revealed that the man who was preparing for the UPSC exam committed the murder out of revenge. (Pune Double Murder Case)
The murdered husband and wife have been identified as Maruti alias Shankar Narayan Kate (60), Sangeeta Maruti Kate (56), both from Dapodi. The accused has been identified as Prasanna Pramodrao Mangrulkar (32) from Chandrapur. Shagun Raghunath Kate (26) from Dapodi has lodged a complaint at the Bhosari Police Station.
The accused killed him by stabbing with the pick-axe. The accused had come directly to Pune from Delhi to avenge the assault on his mother. After the murder, the accused was going to the police station with a blood-stained pick-axe when the citizens caught him and handed him over to the police. He told all the facts during the interrogation of the police.
Mangrulkar is highly educated and his father has passed away. Also, his mother was a zilla parishad school teacher in Chandrapur. After Prasanna got a job in a bank in Pimpri-Chinchwad, he and his mother moved to Dapodi in 2015. Both of them were living as tenants of deceased Kate.
Prasanna told the police that Kate abused her mother while they were staying in Kate’s room on rent for two years. Later, they both went to live in Talegaon Dabhade. Within a few days his mother also passed away. He was left alone. He reached Delhi to prepare for UPSC. He claimed that Kate was constantly harassing and threatening him. The anger of the torture of his mother was in his mind.
Prasanna directly reached Pune from Delhi to take revenge. With a blanket, a towel, and Rs 1,500 in his bag, he flew to Pune airport on Saturday. From there he came to Dapodi on foot. He purchased a pick-axe from a shop and went to Kate’s home.
He killed Shankar Kate by stabbing him to death. He killed Kate’s wife who resisted him. He was going to the police station with the blood-stained pick-axe in his hand. People stopped him and called the police. He was shouting ‘Jagdamba, Jagdamba’ while walking on the road. A case of murder has been registered against Prasanna at the Bhosari police station. The police are conducting further investigation.
