Pune | Goods and Services Tax department takes strong action in Pune; businessman arrested for submitting fake bills of more than Rs 200 crore

Pune :  Policenama online The Goods and Services Tax department of Maharashtra has arrested a businessman for submitting false bills of more than Rs 200 crore. The businessman, Aftaf Mumtaz Rehmani, was produced in the court and was remanded to 14-day judicial custody, informed the state tax officer through a press release.

The GST department takes action against tax evaders and accordingly, action has been taken against Aftaf Rehmani. M/s Arsh Steel Corporation took a certificate under GST Act, 2017. Rehmani through this company sent bills of Rs 200 crore but sent input tax credit of Rs 41 crore 95 lakh to next buyers.

Since he wanted to avoid paying tax, he showed a bogus purchase bill without purchasing any goods and got a refund of Rs 27 crore 7 lakh. The state GST department took action after they came about this incident and a case was filed against the trader.

Deputy Commissioner of state tax department Dattatraya Amberao and Assistant Commissioner of tax department Sachin Sangle took the action under the guidance of Upper State Tax Commissioner Dhananjay Akhade and Joint Commissioner of state tax department Reshma Ghanekar. Advocate Mahesh Zanvar represented the state tax department, said the press release.
