Pune : Policenama online Pune | Officer-bearers and staff of a credit society allegedly duped many people by promising loans for various purposes and taking processing fees and deposits for the same.

The chairman and staff of the credit society are apparently on the run. The Kondhwa police have filed an offence against the chairman and staff of TS Multi-state Co-op Credit Society.

The accused have been identified as credit society chairman Nashib Shaikh (45), staffers Mohsin Zulfikar Pathan (30), and Raje Rathod (32), all residents of Kondhwa. Omkar Suresh Lokhande (25), a resident of Mohammadwadi road, has lodged a complaint in this regard. The incident took place between March 12 and 31, 2021.

According to the police, Nashib Shaikh opened the office of TS Multi-state Co-op Credit Society in Konark Plaza building in Kondhwa. The complainant runs a tourist agency. He wanted to buy a car for his business. He reportedly sought a loan of Rs 7 lakh from Shaikh. Apparently, Rs 70,000 were taken from Lokhande on account of processing fees and deposit. He was purportedly given a cheque for Rs 7 lakh on March 16, 2021. However, the cheque bounced as the credit society did not have enough funds in its account.

Meanwhile, Shaikh allegedly escaped after closing down the credit society. Many others like Lokhande have been reportedly duped by Shaikh who are approaching the police with similar complaints. Till date, complaints involving a sum of Rs 5.71 lakh have been lodged with the police. API Barge is investigating the matter.
