Pune News: Big bookie held for taking bets on England vs South Africa cricket match, Rs 40 lakh seized

He has been identified as Dinesh Harish Sharma (38), a resident of Kalewadi. The match took place on Saturday. API Harish Mane got a tip-off that bets were being taken on the match. Following a technical analysis, the police raided flat no. 701 in the Amma Bliss housing society, Kalewadi, Pimpri.

Cops found that Dinesh Sharma was taking bets on the ‘Cricket Live Line Guru’ app to earn profits. Before the match, the bets were decided as Re 1 to 61 paise if South Africa won while Re 1 to 60 paise, if England won. As the match progressed, the bet fluctuated. The rate was decided on the app and bets are taken.

The accused was arrested when he was playing Khai-Lagai bets on the England vs South Africa match with Dhanu and Shivan. Rs 40 lakh cash, two mobile phones, a calculator, totally worth Rs 40.80, were seized from his possession.

Policeman Ganesh Madane lodged a complaint at the Wakad police station. A case has been registered against Dinesh Sharma and his other absconding aides under the Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act and the Indian Telegraph Act. API Harish Mane is investigating further.

The action was taken under the guidance of Commissioner of Police (CP) Vinay Kumar Choubey, Joint CP Sanjay Shinde, Addl CP Vasant Pardeshi, DCP Swapna Gore and ACP Satish Mane.

A team comprising API HV Mane, policemen Hazarat Pathan, Ganesh Medge, Nitin Gengaje, Shyam Baba, Ramdas Mohite, Tausif Shaikh and Popat Hulge took the action.
