Pune News: Friendship on Instagram cost Pune woman Rs 6 lakh
Pune: Policenama online -Pune Crime News | Befriending a stranger on Instagram has cost a woman dearly. It has come to light that the cyber thugs by claiming to have sent an expensive gift to a woman and asked her to pay customs charges of Rs 6.34 lakh and cheated her. A case has been registered at Uttam Nagar Police Station in this case. (Pune Crime News)
A 44-year-old woman has registered a case at Uttam Nagar police station. Accordingly, the police have registered a case against Instagram account holder Gilbert Andrew1010 under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 419, 420 and IT Act. The incident took place online between February 2022 and October 2023 at the woman’s home.
According to the police, “The complainant woman is a housewife. She met a person on Instagram in February 2022. The person slowly increased the friendship. The man then contacted the woman via WhatsApp and said that he had sent an expensive gift. Also asked to pay the custom charges. Accordingly, the woman sent Rs 6,34,999 online. However, no gift was received by the woman. After realizing that she was cheated, the woman lodged a complaint at the Cyber Police Station.”
After that the case was transferred to Uttam Nagar Police Station.
The Further investigation in the case is being conducted by police inspector (crime) Shabnam Shaikh.
