Pune: Pune News | “Social media, Artificial Intelligence, ChatGPT and increasing government control are adversely affecting journalism. However, journalism will survive. Journalists will have to fight injustice in the manner old journalists fought against it. We have been going through a nightmare for the past 10-12 years. Journalists will realise this and journalism will be revived again in the coming three years,” said senior journalist and MP Kumar Ketkar on Friday.

Maharashtra Times Editor Parag Karandikar was recently appointed as a member of the Press Council of India (PCI). His felicitation was organised by the city-based Saturday Club. He was honoured by Kumar Ketkar.

Sakal Media Group Chairman Pratap Pawar, former legislator Ulhas Pawar and Ankush Kakade were present.

“Though it is said that the PCI is powerless, it has the power to point out mistakes of the media and the government,” said Ketkar, and added, “Private enterprises have reduced spending on advertisements. However, the government is providing advertisements amounting to crores of rupees to media houses. This has increased the dependence of the government on the media.”

“Journalists, the media always try to work for the welfare of society. Restrictions are being put on journalism and media groups. It is a flaw of the system. Once these restrictions are removed, journalism will flourish again,” said Pratap Pawar.

“It is a matter of pride to be appointed on a national institution such as the PCI. Karandikar will utilise the opportunity to contribute to society and journalism,” said Ulhas Pawar.

Satirist Ramdas Phutane, former legislator Mohan Joshi, Standing Committee former Chairman Shrikant Shirole, media expert Samiran Valvekar, Grahak Peth’s Suryakant Pathak and entrepreneur Yuvaraj Shaha congratulated Karandikar.

Ankush Kakade compered while Ravi Chowdhary proposed a vote of thanks.
