Pune News | Three leopard cubs found in sugarcane field at Nere, Mulshi

Pune : Policenama online Pune News | Three leopard cubs, a male and two females, were found in a sugarcane field at Nere village in Mulshi taluka on Monday morning. Cane-cutter Vitthal Palve found them in the sugarcane field belonging to Mohan Jadhav. They have been placed back at the same spot for their reunion with their mother.

 

The cubs were seen at the sugarcane field while cane cutting was underway. Jadhav immediately contacted the forest department. A forest officer and an animal rescue team immediately arrived at the spot and the cubs’ custody was taken. Honorary wild animal rescuer Aditya Paranjape said the cubs are 15-20 days old. They were examined. They were healthy and fine. A microchip has been fitted on each one of them and they have been placed back at the same spot. Their mother is likely to take them back at night. It will be observed from a certain distance. The farmer, in whose field they were found, is cooperating with us. Such reunions have been successful in recent times.

 

ResQ CT Wildlife, Pune founder Neha Panchamiya said, “The cubs need the warmth of their mother. Therefore, they will be placed back at the spot, where they were found. The female leopard will take them back. We have installed trap cameras to observe her movements. She is likely to come back tonight. They may reunite.”
