Pune PMC News | Kasba Peth branch of BJP ruling the roost in PMC for 5 years agitates for civic amenities
Pune : Policenama online –Pune PMC News | The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Kasba Peth branch has held important posts such as an MP, an MLA, the mayor for two-and-a-half years, the Standing Committee chairperson for three years, the Ward Committee chairperson for five years and the City Improvement Committee chairperson for a year.
However, within two-and-a-half months after the civic body’s term was over, the party branch had to agitate for civic amenities. This has raised a question mark over the allocations of crores of rupees made in the civic budget by the then ruling party.
The BJP agitated in front of the Vishrambaug Ward Office against the civic administration on Thursday. The stir was launched over the potholes caused after repairing of roads dug for laying drainage and water pipelines. The ruling party had taken up these works in the fourth year of their term. The then Standing Committee Chairman for the fourth consecutive term Hemant Rasane and Leader of House in PMC Ganesh Bidkar appealed to citizens in peth areas that they would have to bear the inconvenience caused due to the works, which were being conducted after 50 years.
Arterial roads such as Shivaji road, Tilak road, Bajirao road and Laxmi road were dug. Citizens kept complaining while the media turned the spotlight on traffic mismanagement during these works. However, these office-bearers did not take these issues seriously. Roads in peth areas were concretised. However, 24×7 water pipelines and water meters have still not been installed. Hence, these newly built concrete road are now being dug. Since they have not been repaired properly. Potholes and craters can be seen everywhere in the heart of the city. Drainage chambers at many places were built above the road level. They have also been broken. Patches of concrete can be seen at many places. At some places, these roads are being dug to lay water and drainage lines.
The administrator took over the reins at the PMC on March 14. Later, the erstwhile office-bearers, corporators and party functionaries from the BJP started agitating, which raised many an eyebrow.
The Kasba assembly segment BJP president Pramod Kondhare led the agitation on Thursday. Former standing panel chairman Hemant Rasane, former corporator Ajay Khedekar and other office-bearers were present. They also demanded that tree branches should be cut, drainage lines be cleaned and streetlamps be repaired before the rainy season.
