Monsoon turns its back on Pune: Water cut in Pune city soon

Pune : Policenama onlinePune PMC Water Supply | The prolonged absence of the monsoon has increased the water crisis. The Pune Municipal Corporation has become alert and civic officials are going to visit the IMD to learn about the possibility of rainfall in the city. Civic officials are going to hold a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the water supply arrangements and are going to decide on a water cut for the city.

Despite the prediction of normal rainfall by the IMD and Skymet, the monsoon has turned its back on Pune even as the month of June is coming to an end. At present, there is 2.76 TMC feet water storage in the Khadakwasla dam. Even the farmers are also worried about the lack of rainfall.

Considering the experience of the last few years, the water resources department makes arrangements of water supply for Pune city till July 15. In the last five years, good rainfall has been recorded in June. Hence, there was no need for a water cut. This year, however, the situation has worsened. The IMD had predicted that the city will get sufficient rainfall from June 23. However, even after four days after that deadline, there is no sign of the rain and the patience of civic officials is running thin.

Hence, against this background, civic officials on Monday visited the IMD to get first hand information about the weather forecast for the city. A meeting of the water department is going to be held on Tuesday in the presence of Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar. Senior officials said a decision regarding the water cut will be taken after considering the situation.
