Pune : Policenama online – Pune police arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly stealing mobile phones by tricking people across the city. The police also recovered 22 mobile handsets from him. The accused used to commit the crime with his two accomplices.
Police arrested the accused after going through the CCTV footage where the accused was sneaking inside a house and stealing the mobile phone.
The arrested accused was identified as Murli Nagraj, 35, a resident of Nagori, Shimoga district in Karnataka), and police said that he had come to the city a few days ago and was involved in the crime with the help of his two accomplices.
Police said that the modus operandi of Nagaraj was that he used to knock on doors in the morning on the pretext of delivering milk or some other works. While his accomplices kept the homeowner busy, Nagraj sneaked inside the home and stole mobile phones that were kept on charging or on the table.
However, on Friday, in the same manner, a mobile phone was stolen from the house of Bharat Raj Purohit in the shukrawar Pethe area. Based on Purohit’s complaint, the Police searched the CCTV footage of the area and found Nagraj was stealing a phone by tricking people.
Vishrambaug police formed a team and started searching the accused. Police received information that the accused was in the Santosh Nagar area. The police conducted a raid. When he saw the police, he started running away. However, the police chased and caught him.
As many as 22 mobile handsets were seized from him. He had stolen the mobile in the last few days in Vishrambaug, Bharti Vidyapeeth, and Warje Malwadi Police stations area.
Nagraj, a native of Shimoga in Karnataka, had come to Pune from the village a few days back. He used to steal with the help of his two accomplices. Under the guidance of senior inspector Sunil Mane, a team of sub-inspector Rakesh Sarde, he was caught.
