Pune Rural Police arrest four youths in onion theft case

Pune: Pune Rural police have arrested a gang of four youths on charges of stealing 550 kg onion from Junnar tehsil of Pune district. A team of police personnel from Otur police station made these arrests and seized a pickup van, two bikes and 49 bags of onion, total worth Rs 7 lakh from the possession of the suspects.

Police have identified the suspects as Ketan Sudhir Hande (21), a resident of Pimpalgaon in Joga, Akshay Devram Sadakal (23) and Saurabh Subhash Maskare (19), both residents of Madh and Vikram Sakharam Gode (21), a resident of Taleran and presently residing in Pimpri-Chinchwad. A complaint has been filed in this case by Varad Vishnu Desai, a resident of Dingore in Junnar tehsil.

According to the complaint, the suspects had stolen 550 kg onions on October 22. After Desai realized that the onion bags were stolen, he lodged a complaint with Otur police. A team comprising Assistant Police Inspector Parshuram Kamble, Police Sub Inspector A K Shelke, police personnel Pankaj Parkhe, Navnath Kokate started investigations into the matter.

The team checked for CCTV footage in the nearby areas. Suspicious movement of two youths on a bike was seen in the footage. Police traced this bike and the youths and detained them for interrogation.

The suspects revealed their identity as Ketan Hande and Akshay Sadakal. On further interrogation they confessed to have stolen the onion bags. The duo then revealed the names of Saurabh Maskare and Vikram Gode. The suspects were produced in a court at Junnar and were remanded to police custody till October 27.
