Pune: State CID Detained Fugitive in Financial Misappropriation Case of Samata Co-Operative Bank from Hyderabad After 17 Years
Pune: A team of the State Crime Investigation Department (CID) arrested the accused from Hyderabad who had been absconding for 17 years in the Rs 145 crore financial misappropriation case at Samata Cooperative Bank in Nagpur. The investigation has revealed that the absconding accused has been living in Pune, Mumbai, and Telangana for the past 17 years, masquerading his identity.
The arrested person has been identified as Vijayakumar Ramachandra Daima. Daima was residing in the Fair View Society in Hyderabad, Telangana. He was accused of the financial misappropriation of Rs 145 crore that took place in Nagpur 17 years ago.
In the financial swindling at Samata Co-operative Bank, the officers, employees, bank chairman, vice chairman, and board of directors of the bank embezzled 145 crore and 60 lakh rupees by submitting fake loan cases. In this case, a complaint was registered against 57 people for embezzlement and cheating at the Sitabardi police station in Nagpur.
Considering the extent of the financial scam, the investigation of the matter was handed over by the Nagpur police to the Nagpur office of the CID. The matter was then being investigated by the Financial Offences Wing of the CID. According to the police information, Daima has been living in Pune, Mumbai, and the Telangana area for the past 17 years, hiding his identity.
The team from CID’s Pune office got information that he was residing in Hyderabad. After that, a team from the Economic Offences Branch arrested him in Hyderabad. After he was detained successfully, he was handed over to the CID in Nagpur for further investigations.
This action was taken by the team of Police Inspector Anand Rawde, Constable Vikas Koli, Sunil Bansode, and Pradeep Chavan under the guidance of Additional Director General of Police Prashant Burde, Special Inspector General of Police Dr. Dilip Patil-Bhujbal, and Superintendent of Police Vaishali Mane of the Pune Office of CID.
