Pune | Teacher who set up ideal zilla parishad school in Pune district suspended

Pune : Policenama online – Dattatray Ware, the Head Master of the ideal school at Wablewadi village in the district has been suspended by the Pune Zilla Parishad citing dereliction of duty.

Ware’s work at the school has been recognised at the international level. However, he has fallen victim to local politics. Ware joined the school in 2012. He mobilised support from the local people to run the school. His efforts were boosted by the Art of Living and Bank of New York by providing funds in 2016. Thus he could realise his dream of an ideal school.

Liberal education was imparted to pupils in this schools instead of the routine rote learning. Many parents who had admitted their children in private schools also put them back in this school. This led to a scenario where a waiting list had to be made for the school admissions.

NCP leader and state minister Ajit Pawar praised these efforts by saying that this model needed to be replicated in other schools across the State. However, the ZP which is now ruled by the NCP has suspended Ware. A school development committee comprising villagers functions at Wablewadi, which accepts voluntary donations. The ZP education department alleged that the committee has not maintained a proper record of these donations. The general body of the ZP passed a resolution to suspend Dattatray Ware.

The number of students went up from 65 to 531 in five years. Villagers donated their land of crores of rupees to the school. The school curriculum is innovative. Eight languages are taught in the school. Students are trained for competitive exams from Std VI. Vocational guidance, coding & programing, English speaking are some of the initiatives conducted in the school. Ware has got President’s medal for his innovative work.

Allegations against Ware are borne out of local politics. He used to work from morning till night at this school. Villagers collected funds amounting to lakhs of rupees. Some corporates also provided CSR funds. Every penny was accounted for. However, Ware’s name has been intentionally dragged into this controversy, said local villagers.
