Many aspirants for Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Trust president’s post, election postponed
Pune: Policenama online – Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Trust has still not got a new president following the demise of its erstwhile president Ashok Godse. The trustees have announced that the president will be elected after September 15, once the Ganesh festival is over. Hence, this year’s Ganeshotsav will be celebrated without the president. Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Trust’s Founder-President Prataprao alias Tatya Godse had passed away and his son Ashok Godse became the president. It was expected that the trustees would elect the new president after Ashok Godse’s death.
However, no decision could be reached as there has been no unanimity over a particular name among the trustees. Some of them objected to electing a politician to the post while some others claimed that they themselves were qualified to become the president. Therefore, there has been no decision in this regard.
News about the strife over the election of Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Trust president has now reached not only across Maharashtra but also across the country due to a huge number of devotees in India and abroad. Workers and devotees are discussing the issue in a hush-hush manner. The trustees addressed a press meet, in the backdrop of talks that the trust will not have a president during this year’s Ganeshotsav. The trustees announced that the festival will be organised as per the plan made by the late Ashok Godse. This was decided as a tribute to the late president. It is being projected that all is well regarding the election of the new president.
Questions are being raised whether the new president would adhere to the plan prepared by Godse. Why should the president’s post remain vacant? What would happen to social and other initiatives being carried out by the trust without its president?
The trust receives donations not only from across the state and the country but also from abroad. Decisions about these donations, the administration and various initiatives have been pending for over seven months now.
It is being asked if the chairman of Suvarnayug Sahakari Bank, an initiative of the trust, can be elected unopposed, then why cannot the trust’s president be elected unopposed?
