Solapur | Ex-Karnataka MLA Ravikant Patil arrested for gambling in Solapur

Solapur : Policenama online – A former Karnataka MLA and 29 others were arrested for gambling in Solapur. The Solapur Police alleged that a gambling racket was being run at Club 9 on Hotgi Road in Solapur by former MLA Ravikant Patil, who hails from Indi, Karnataka.
The Solapur Crime Branch under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Harish Baijal carried out the raid. When the police raided the club, Patil was sitting at the entrance with his party workers.
On hearing about Patil’s arrest, a big mob of his supporters from Karnataka gathered at the Vijapur Naka Police Station, where he was lodged. This created tension for some time. The arrested were made to sit on the floor while Patil was sitting in the inquiry room.
Patil was elected to the Karnataka Assembly from the Indi constituency as an independent candidate for three consecutive terms in 1994, 1999 and in 2004.
It was revealed during the inquiry that many people from Karnataka visit the club in Solapur, specially for gambling.
The police seized Rs 2.24 lakh cash, mobiles worth 4.19 lakh and gambling material worth Rs 13,000 from 19 people involved in gambling at the time of raid.
The police also collected tokens worth Rs 5,000, which are used as a substitute to currency notes.
Later, the police released all of them late at night.
