Pune : Policenama online BJP State unit president Chandrakant Patil has alleged that senior BJP leader Kirit Somaiya was attacked with an intention to kill him. “Had there been no security service of the central government, we would have to pay homage to him,” said Patil.

The BJP state unit chief visited the Sancheti Hospital, where Somaiya is undergoing treatment. Patil met Somaiya and inquired about his health. “There was an intention to kill Kirit Somaiya. Preparations were completed to kill him. This is a ‘goonda raj’. We would have to pay homage to Somaiya. What were the police doing when the attack took place? Nothing could be achieved by attacking Somaiya. The Pune police should register a case suo moto. It is a riot. ‘Condemn’ is a very mild word to use. We will not keep quiet,” said Patil.

‘I know how to tackle such people’

“I met Kirit Somaiya in the hospital and discussed our future course of action. He is not afraid of such attacks. I am also not afraid of such assaults. I know how to tackle 100 such people,” he told the media persons. Patil also alleged that the state government is acting out of vendetta against BJP MLA Nitesh Rane.

BJP workers agitated in front of the Shivajinagar police station demanding action against the Shiv sainiks who attacked Somaiya.

What exactly happened?

Kirit Somaiya first visited the Shivajinagar police station, where he lodged a complaint regarding a scam at the Pune Jumbo Covid Centre. Then he went to meet the municipal commissioner. The police tried to get Somaiya out of the PMC premises after the attack. However, during the melee, Somaiya fell down. The police then helped him to get into his car. However, the Shiv sainiks banged on his car. Some workers stood in front of his car.

Somaiya tweeted about the attack saying: “I am attacked by Shiv Sena goondas inside the premises of Pune Mahapalika.
