Agartala, Dec 24 (UNI)- A local court of Kamalpur in Tripura’s Dhalai district convicted a 21-year-old youth and sentenced him to 20 years rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl followed by abduction in December 2020.

The court convicted him on Saturday under multiple sections of POCSO Act and Indian Penal Code and asked him to pay a fine of Rs 50,000 failing of which he will have to serve one more year in the jail.

According to report, the convict Sanjit Hrishidas (21) of Harerkhola area of Kamalpur had gone to a relative’s house in Dukli area of Agartala to have his ailing mother undergo treatment. He got involved in a carnal relationship with the minor daughter of his relative for a few months and then abducted her.

After a FIR had been filed the police rescued the girl from Kamalpur. During investigation it was revealed that Sanjit raped the minor several times and finally kidnapped her.

He had confined the girl at his residence illegally and later police rescued her. During the trial as many as 21 people deposed witnesses for the prosecution besides evidence.
