With an extended deadline, Pune Municipal Corporation collects 900 Cr from the property tax

Policenama : Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) move to increase the deadline to pay property tax has received a positive response. In the three months, the civic body collected 906 crore property tax from citizens.

The PMC had announced five to ten percent discount for citizens paying PT between April 1 to May 31 however Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown resulted in less response.

Following this, PMC increased the deadline till June 30 and managed to collect property tax from 5,92,308 property owners. The PMC has total of 11,15,000 property owners.

Out of 5.92 lakhs property owners, 4.46 lakh owners preferred to pay tax online while the remaining 78,492 paid the tax by cheques.

 

PMC will get more property tax from next year

As per the notification by the State government, 23 adjoining villages have merged in PMC limits. These villages are Narhe, Holkarwadi, Autade-Handewadi, Wadachiwadi, Shewalewadi, Nandoshi, Sanasnagar, Mangdewadi, Bhilarewadi, Mhalunge, Sus, Bavdhan Budruk, Kirkatwadi, Pisoli, Kondhwe-Dhawade, Kopre, Nanded, Khadakwasla, Manjari Budhruk, Gujar Nimbalkarwadi, Jambhulwadi, Kolewadi and Wagholi. In 2014, the state government had declared to include 34 villages in PMC however only 11 villages were merged and now, these 23 villages have been merged.

With the merger of these 23 villages, PMC is expecting to increase the collection of PT by almost Rs 100 crore. As the decision of the merger was taken in June and the villagers might have paid property tax to Grampanchayat, it will be next year when the PMC will get additional tax.
