Yuva Sena slams Modi govt over increasing fuel prices; puts up banners

Mumbai: Yuva Sena, the youth wing of Shiv Sena, has put up banners at petrol pumps and roadside in Bandra West amid rising fuel prices in the country.

Taking a dig at the BJP, which coined the slogan ‘Acche Din Aane Wale Hain’ (good days are about to come) during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the hoardings asked ‘Yahi Hain Acche Din?’ (are these the good days?).

On Monday, petrol prices in the city were Rs 97 per litre and that of the diesel remained at Rs 88.06 per litre.

On Sunday, Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi expressed her “anguish and deep distress regarding the spiraling fuel and gas prices” and accused the government of “profiteering” off “people’s misery”.

In a three-page letter, she urged PM Modi to reduce the prices by partially rolling back excise duty, saying the truth is that as GDP “nosedives”, the prices of gas, diesel and petrol continue to rise unchecked.

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas and Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday had termed “less fuel production by manufacturing countries to gain more profit”, as one of the reasons behind the price hike.

“There are two main reasons behind the fuel price rise. The international market has reduced fuel production and manufacturing countries are producing less fuel to gain more profit. This is making the consumer countries suffer,” Pradhan had told ANI during his visit to inspect the venue where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address a rally in Assam’s Dhemaji on Monday.
