Pune: For the last two days, Pune’s passport office has been facing a technical glitch, resulting in exacerbated problems for citizens while filling out an online application form. As the office’s main server has failed for the last two days, people are facing difficulty completing online fee processing. Meanwhile, the passport office has issued a statement, confirming the early resolution of the problem.
As per the citizen’s complaints, there has been a technical problem on the website of the passport office for the last two days. Every day, there are about ten to twelve hundred passport applications processed at the passport office in Pune. The recent problem has caused great inconvenience to many citizens. Therefore, people are complaining about issues such as difficulty in fee processing and the unaccountability shown by the passport office about the recent problem.
As an information technology and business hub, there is an increasing demand for passports for domestic and foreign workers in Pune. This issue has further increased, especially after the COVID pandemic. After the pandemic, many people did not renew their passports, even after their expiration in 2020 and 2021. Therefore, a large number of applications are pending in the passport office for processing.
Meanwhile, the Divisional Passport Officer, Arjun Devare, explained that the website and server maintenance of the passport office are not under the responsibility of Pune’s Divisional Passport Office. However, he affirmed that this matter has been brought to the attention of the Central Technical Department, and soon this technical problem will be resolved.
The maintenance of the website and IT infrastructure of the Indian Passport Office is currently operated by Tata Consultancy Services.
As per the latest information, there has been an increasing number of applicants seeking passport facilities in the last few years. In the year 2023, the Divisional Passport Office in Pune distributed 4 lakh, 56 thousand passports. Meanwhile, several campaigns are being conducted by the Passport Office to process the previous pending applications and new applications in less time.
