Colleges Can’t Be Resumed Until The Corona Situation Improves : Uday Samant

Pune : Uday Samant, state’s higher and technical education minister has resumed work after recovering from corona. He was surrounded by activists and various student organizations at the university on Tuesday which caused a disturbance in physical distancing rules.

‘In view of recent situation of corona in Maharashtra, online syllabus taught by the colleges will be accepted and examinations will be conducted on that basis. However, the colleges will start only after the Corona situation improves,’ said the Uday Samant on Tuesday.

Uday Samant was speaking at a press conference held after reviewing the online and offline exams conducted by Savitribai Phule Pune University. Apart from him, State Higher Education Director Dhanraj Mane, University Registrar Dr. Praful Pawar, Director of Examination Evaluation Board Dr. Mahesh Kakade was also present.

As told by Uday Samant during the press conference, Pune University will conduct examinations for about 2 lakh students online and 50,000 students offline. The university has made all the necessary preparations for the exam.

In order to ensure smooth conduct of examinations in Pune, Ahmednagar and Nashik districts, a separate cell has been set up for coordination between the district administration and the university administration. Representatives of the administration from all the three districts were present at the meeting held at the university.

The recruitment of professors and CHB posts in the state will be done soon. Preference will be given to NET-SET qualified candidates for recruitment of professors. Other candidates will then be considered.

As informed by Uday Samant, Pune University has withdrawn the fee hike due to Corona. Therefore, no affiliated college should increase the fee. Colleges will not be able to charge gymkhana fees, development fees etc. Only tuition fees can be charged. Action will be taken against educational institutions that charge extra fees from students.
